The New And The Heavy: WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM
As Cascadian black metal pioneers, WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM, prepare to release their latest LP, Celestite, another single from the expansive album has been unleashed exclusively via Vice Magazine's music portal, Noisey.
A synth-driven companion to their lauded 2011-released Southern Lord LP,Celestial Lineage, the Randall Dunn-produced Celestite LP is a far cry from the expected blackened maelstrom WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM fans are used to experiencing. Void of vocals, guitars and percussion, the instrumental passages on Celestite reflect the tracks of its predecessor in a whole new light, with more than forty-five minutes of rich, otherworldly, synthesizer-constructed works which more resemble a sci-fi/horror soundtrack or meditative musical experience than a metal album. The record's second track, "Initiation at Neudeg Alm" -- the parallel to Celestial Lineage's "Subterranean Initiation" -- provides perhaps some of the more sinister, ominous elements of the Celestite experience with a condensed, dirge-driven and yet still pristine six-minute journey into cerebral realms.
"Initiation at Neudeg Alm" is now playing via Noisey.
WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM will systematically release Celestite on their own newly-founded Artemisia Records worldwide on July 8th, on CD, LP and digital formats. Preorders for the record can be found HERE.
Just days subsequent to the album's release, WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM will traverse the West Coast on a nine-date tour. However, while Celestite focuses exclusively on layered, droning ambience, this West Coast tour will feature the band in their anticipated, full-backline black metal form. Their unique and fully devastating delivery will be unleashed onto their fans including older material which they have never performed live. Opening the tour in their hometown of Olympia on July 11th, WITTR will forage through Bellingham, Vancouver, Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, Santa Cruz and San Diego before closing down with a final show in Los Angeles on July 20th. Support for WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM on the tour will be provided by Oakland psychedelic noise troupe, Nommo Ogo. Additional support will be provided throughout the tour by D A Terrence, A God Or Another, Druden, Volahn, Lycus and others, including direct support on the San Francisco show by Dispirit.

“Fond Affections”, a cover of the classic Rema-Rema song, is a powerful and poignant take on the 4AD standard made popular by This Mortal Coil.
"Dove" builds on the haunting folk of King Woman's 2013 Degrida / Sick Bedsingle. “A slow-burning, muscular, and above all, monstrous song clocking in at over 15 minutes. It is by far the most emotive of Kristina’s recent compositions.

The New And The Heavy: DRCARLSONALBION: Solo LP By Founding Earth Guitarist Dylan Carlson
DRCARLSONALBION: Solo LP By Founding Earth Guitarist Dylan Carlson
Gold, the first soundtrack work under the moniker DRCARLSONALBION by Earth's founding guitarist, DYLAN CARLSON, will officially see independent release tomorrow, June 17th.
You can purchase "Gold" on Amazon or iTunes.
CARLSON began performing under the name DRCARLSONALBION in 2011, primarily as an outlet to explore in greater depth elements he only touched upon with the Earth Angels of Darkness, Demons of Light series through his unique, meditative and personal search for the purity of the riff; an expressive, improvisational approach that serves as a counterbalance to the repetitive force of Earth. Composed for a foreign language western of the same name, Gold instrumentally helps tell the story of German pioneers traversing the Canadian West, CARLSON's score revolving around key guitar motifs and their dialog with drone, repetition and loose improvisation, through twenty-four tracks meant to be played as a whole. It is an inversion of the work of Earth; stripping away where they would layer. It's an immersive experience. For the first time CARLSON's guitar is presented, bare, alone, with only minimal percussion, fore-fronting his evocative, lyrical control of the instrument in a language that transcends tired "cinematic" adjectives and places you directly into the landscape.
Gold will see independent digital and LP release on June 17th, 2014 -- the deluxe vinyl limited to 1000 copies -- while Daymare Records out of Japan will handle the CD pressing worldwide.
Additionally, Earth is currently on tour, building up to the release of their upcoming LP late this Summer. Having just completed a run through Japan and New Zealand, the troupe has just entered Australia for a five-city tour beginning in Brisbane tomorrow, June 17th. European Festival dates are planned for July and August. Much more on the upcoming LP and further Earth tour plans will be announced in the coming weeks.

The New And The Heavy: DREADLORDS
Some creepy stuff shows up in one's inbox--in a good way. By way of Baltimore, Maryland, check out the dark evil blues of Dreadlords.
DREADLORDS: Iniquitous Blues Sect Confirms Release Of Debut LP Via Not Just Religious Music
A cult deeply founded in the darker realms of blues rock, the darkness of humanity, and the occult,DREADLORDS, will unveil their ominous debut LP later this year on Not Just Religious Music.
Containing members of Panther Modern and T.O.M.B., and hailing from different areas in the Pennsylvania and Maryland area, the members of DREADLORDS boast a cruel, snarling brew of organic traditional blues and crushingly dark Americana. Banjos, chimes, percussive elements and amplified acoustic instrumentation, intermittently infused with the slight presence of psychedelic black metal and noise experimentation, with a permeating and harrowing low-end vocal crooning congregate in an organic, brutally raw, intoxicating demonic delivery.
Following their cult demo release last year and waves of live performances throughout the eastern half of the US, including an East Coast tour with King Dude, the members of DREADLORDS culminated on the final day of 2013, entering Satan's Palace in rainy Cherry Hill, New Jersey in order to concoct a new musical ritual to take your soul. The band will release the LP this Harvest Season via Not Religious Music, the label forged nearly one year ago by occult rock purveyor, King Dude and home to several releases by King Dude including a split with Chelsea Wolfe.
Further details on this maiden full-length will be proclaimed in the sweltering Summer ahead as it is finalized for public intake. Stay tuned for further propaganda in the dim days ahead. In the meantime, several new live rituals have been confirmed, with more undoubtedly to follow in the coming weeks.
The history of American guitar music is tied to the history of the devil. In the South, it used to be customary to assume that if you played blues on guitar, then you had sold your soul to the devil. The origin of such a myth is hard to determine. It could be coming to us from voodoo dances in Louisiana or haunting ring shout rituals on plantations, but most likely it comes from the fame of one Robert Johnson. Legend has it he sold his soul to the devil at the crossroads in order to learn how to play guitar. He even died young. But the truth of the matter is that he learned to play guitar at night in cemeteries with a friend. He intentionally cultivated a dark persona using pact with the devil myths that other blues artists in his area were already spreading. And it worked. His story lived on to inspire and obsess people like Eric Clapton, The Rolling Stones, and many others. One could go so far as to say that there would be no metal without him. Anyway, the history lesson ends here.
The point is that there is something demonic about the music of the blues and this is something that DREADLORDS wishes to explore. All of the songs were written and practiced in graveyards at night. All of the songs have lyrics about murder and insanity. All of the songs were made by individuals involved in or related to the practice of magic. All of the songs were recorded using a banjo with a pickup. All of the songs feature elements against popular culture by using black metal and noise. All of the songs were conceived during periods of extreme personal turmoil, existential angst, and sadness, i.e., the blues.
